On Thursday the 11th of August the Draft Christchurch Central City Recovery Plan was released to widespread community approval, less than seven months after the catastrophic February 22nd earthquake. It details more than 70 projects to be implemented during the recovery of ‘ChCh’. Mayor Bob Parker announced that “The Central City will be a low-rise, resilient, safe and sustainable place. It will be easy to get around, with a business-friendly compact central area, an array of inviting spaces and plenty of activities.” The release of the draft plan follows an intense 4 months of work by Christchurch City Council in close collaboration with Gehl Architects. Our work built upon a massive community engagement where more than 100,000 ideas were collected. There will now be a period of targeted community feedback before a final plan is released by Christmas.Find the report here
