Muscat wants to become a people friendly world-class city and the The leader of Muscat Municipality, His Excellency Sultan bin Hamdoon Al Harthi, has asked Gehl Architects to provide guidance in the process.Jan Gehl and Oliver Schulze are visiting Muscat to present Gehl Achitects work in the city during the last six months, including a range of new public spaces, a vision and toolbox for implementation of public spaces and strategies for how to improve the livability of six districts in the city. The work will be implemented in tandem with the local Muscat Municipality over the next years.Jan Gehl will in his lecture put the challenges that Muscat faces with an ever- increasing automobile pressure, lack of public transport, a huge development pressure and the hot climate into a broader international contexts emphasizing on how to plan people friendly cities for tomorrow."His Majesty the Sultan wants to built these public spaces so that people of Oman can enjoy the same outdoor experiences that people enjoy in cities like Copenhagen and Paris”Oliver Schulze , NATION, Tuesday February 02,2010
