Gehl Architects are working as consultants to the New York City Department of Transportation on the "Green Light for Midtown" pilot program. Starting May 25th 2009, this project will create the first pedestrian streets in Manhattan by closing off blocks of Broadway to traffic around Times Square and Herald and Greenly Squares, thereby reducing traffic congestions in the Midtown area whilst providing long awaited public space for the city’s many inhabitants and visitors.>> Read more here
