GEHL ARCHITECTS WINS COMPETITION IN VIENNA

12.11.2008 Gehl Architects has won 1st prize in the international competition about carrying out an evolution of the existing masterplan of Vienna’s Urban Lakeside, situated between Vienna and Bratislava.

Gehl Architects has won 1st prize in the inter-national competititon about carrying out an evolution of the existing masterplan of Vienna’s Urban Lakeside, situated between Vienna and Bratislava. The existing master plan was developed by Tovatt Architects and Planners - and Gehl Architects has been asked to make more detailed proposals for the public spaces and buildings in the area.Vienna Urban Lakeside will be built on the site where Vienna’s old airport was situated. The city district will be developed over a time span of 25 years. The area is 240 hectares in size and will contain 800.000 m2 of housing and 1.100.000 m2 for retail and research in the future. The proposals of Gehl Architects will create an urban and sustainable city district providing a stimulating and lively environment for the people living, working and visiting the district. We want to create a new city district with good streets, squares and parks focusing first and foremost on the emotional and functional needs of people in the city.>> Read more here
